Teamwork defines the ability to work together towards a common goal. This is probably the umpteenth time of hearing what it is, but the word ‘teamwork’ never loses its substance. Great organisations like Google, Facebook, Apple, and Disney started as collaborations that thrived and stood the test of time as a result of teamwork.
ICS-E brought together volunteers from different cultures. After a week of training, we went on our business placements. During our placement, I realized that every unit worked together as a team. My partner and I joined the marketing unit and all duties given to us by our superiors were tackled as a team. Our MD tried to put us in different units initially but we objected since we knew the power of teamwork. We would not have been able to prepare presentations for donor agencies together as we have done now. Neither would we have been able to achieve anything substantial. Working together brings the best in us and it makes us stand out in our business.
In the pursuit to encourage teamwork, we acknowledge our personal differences, and the collaborations that exist as a result increase our efficiency and productivity; less time wasting on negative criticisms, more time spent on future plans and discussions on the way forward.
Henry Ford once said “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success”.
Coming together is one piece of the puzzle, but staying together and working together as one is our sure way to success.
Time flies and I trust no one can afford to miss the next flight. The time is now, and great results need to be delivered. Teamwork is key.
